Hourly Rate: $18 per hour

Program: Watershed and Land Management – Bureau of Program Development

Program Description: The Bureau of Program Development focuses on supporting environmental program initiatives through technology, policy, and outreach efforts. The bureau works across multiple units to develop and implement projects that advance the DEP’s mission of protecting New Jersey’s natural resources.

Project Description: The intern will be hosted within the bureau’s three units: Information Technology (IT), Geographic Information Systems (GIS), and Policy, Rules, & Outreach. The intern will gain hands-on experience assisting DEP staff with tasks related to program development, including IT and GIS projects, research, data analysis, policy review, and organizational support.

Specific to the Position:
  • Participate in IT and GIS projects, learning new software and applications.
  • Assist with data collection, entry, and analysis.
  • Review rule documents, legislation, and policy materials.
  • Conduct research to support bureau initiatives.
  • Organize and categorize documents for staff.
  • Contribute to special projects as assigned.
What would a day look like as a Bureau of Program Development Intern?
 A typical day may include attending project meetings, supporting staff with IT or GIS tasks, conducting research on policies or legislation, organizing bureau documents, and learning new software programs. Interns will have opportunities to engage with various units and gain practical experience in environmental program development.

License: Appointee will be required to possess a driver's license valid in New Jersey only if the operation of a vehicle, rather than employee mobility, is necessary to perform the essential duties of the position.

Residency: All persons newly hired on or after September 1, 2011, have one year from the date of employment to establish, and then maintain principal residence in the State of New Jersey subject to the provisions of N.J.S.A. 52:14-7 (L.2011, Chapter 70), also known as the "New Jersey First Act".

Authorization to Work: Selected candidates must be authorized to work in the United States per the Department of Homeland Security, United States Citizenship and Immigration Services regulations. Note: The State of New Jersey does not provide sponsorship for citizenship to the United States.
