Description
Under the direction of a Research Scientist 1 or other supervisory official in a state department, institution, or agency, conducts or participates in research projects or developed programs in a specified professional field; does other related work.
Specific to the Position
The Research Scientist 3 - Chemistry, working as a Data Quality Analyst, is responsible for validating analytical data and preparing data validation reports that communicate data quality with respect to method adherence, data usability, and regulatory compliance. Within the Licensed Site Remediation Professional (LSRP) program, the Data Quality Analyst serves as a program contact for laboratory data issues submitted by LSRPs.
Preferred Skill Set
General scientific background knowledge and ability to apply knowledge of rules, regulations and guidance to technical document reviews. Experience with validating full deliverable packages as defined in N.J.A.C 7:26E. As such this position requires highly educated and experienced staff with a solid science background. Experience in analyzing various matrices using analytical instrumentation including Gas Chromatography; Gas Chromatography/Mass Spectrometry; Liquid Chromatography/Mass Spectrometry; Inductively Coupled Plasma; and/or Inductively Coupled Plasma Mass Spectrometry is preferred. Familiarity with USEPA analytical methods and validating and evaluating environmental data generated preferred. Experience with using USEPA Region II Data Validation Standard Operating Procedures preferred.
Requirements
EDUCATION:
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Master of Science degree in chemistry or other appropriate physical or environmental science discipline.
EXPERIENCE:
Two (2) years of experience in chemical analysis or research.
NOTE: A Doctorate in a physical, chemical, or environmental science discipline may be substituted for the experience indicated above.
OR
EDUCATION:
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor of Science degree in chemistry or other appropriate physical or environmental science discipline.
EXPERIENCE:
Three (3) years of experience in chemical analysis or research; one (1) year of which must be in the operation of the gas chromatography mass spectrometer, gas chromatograph, high performance liquid chromatograph, fourier transform mass spectrometer, inductively coupled plasma spectrometer, atomic absorption spectrometer, x-ray defractor, transmission electron microscope, or updated replacement thereof.
License
Appointees will be required to possess a driver's license valid in New Jersey only if the operation of a vehicle, rather than employee mobility, is necessary to perform the essential duties of the position.
