Open to permanent employees in a competitive title who work in the Fish and Wildlife Program and meet the requirements below.
Description
Under the general supervision of a Supervising Biologist, Education or other supervisory
official in the Department of Environmental Protection, plans, organizes, coordinates,
performs, and supervises work relating to the development, presentation, and implementation of various educational and training programs dealing with the biological aspects and management of the State’s fish and wildlife resources and its users; supervises staff and work activities; prepares and signs official performance evaluations for subordinate staff; does other related duties as required.
Specific to the Position
Coordinate NJDEP Fish & Wildlife’s Hunter Education program and supervise associated staff. Oversee the National Archery in the Schools program and Recruitment, Retention and Reactivation hunting and shooting programs. Administer the Hunter Education and Outdoor Heritage Federal Aid grant and provide reports to the US Fish and Wildlife Service. Oversee the safe storage and maintenance of all firearms used for Hunter Education. Teach Hunter Education programs on an as needed basis. Do other related work as required.
Preferred Skill Set
The successful candidate must be knowledgeable in the principles, practices, laws and regulations related to recreational hunting, shooting and trapping in New Jersey; be skilled in the use of hunting equipment and tools to include various firearms and ammunition, and have a working knowledge of the agency's licensing system. Requirements
EDUCATION:
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's degree in one of the Biological Sciences, Natural Resource Management, or Environmental Science with a major concentration in Fisheries Science and/or Wildlife Science.
EXPERIENCE:
Three (3) years of experience in fisheries biology, fisheries management, fisheries husbandry, fisheries research, and/or the development of fisheries management programs.
NOTE: A Master's degree in Fisheries Management or a related field may be substituted for one (1) year of experience.
NOTE: All U.S. degrees and transcripts must be from an accredited college or university. All foreign degrees and transcripts must be evaluated for accreditation by a recognized evaluation service by the closing date of this posting. Failure to provide documentation may result in ineligibility.
License
Appointees will be required to possess a driver's license valid in New Jersey only if the operation of a vehicle, rather than employee mobility, is necessary to perform the essential duties of the position.
NOTE: Appointees must meet all the legal requirements necessary to be issued a State of New Jersey Firearms Purchasers I.D. card.
