Description
Under the supervision of a Principal Environmental Technician, Supervising Environmental Technician, Environmental Engineer, Scientist, or other supervisory official in a state department, institution, or agency, performs semi-skilled and technical engineering or investigation and inspection work in an environmental program; does other related duties as required.

Specific to the Position

This position will function as an Environmental Technician field staff, trailering, launching, and operating State boats in order to satisfy the requirements of the National Shellfish Sanitation Program's Model Ordinance. This environmental technician will collect water samples and bring them back to the lab to be analyzed. This hourly will maintain boats, operate boats and trucks, and ensure that water samples are taken properly and according to approved standards. This hourly will also input data into a database and maintain proper records.

Preferred Skill Set
Ability to operate a boat, launch and dock a boat, trailer a boat, operate a truck with a trailered boat, maintain boats. Ability to properly use and store boats and related materials and equipment. Ability to learn to utilize various types of electronic and/or manual recording and information systems used by the agency, office, or related units.

Requirements
EDUCATION: Appointees will be required to provide verification of the satisfactory completion of one or more course in mathematics (algebra, trigonometry, geometry, pre-calculus or calculus) AND one or more course in science (physics, chemistry, environmental, or biological) required in various high school level college preparatory curriculum.


NOTE: Thirty (30) semester hour credits from an accredited college or university, which shall have included at least twenty-one (21) semester credit hours in any combination of natural, chemical, environmental, biological, or engineering sciences, may be substituted for one (1) year of work experience.

NOTE:  All U.S. degrees and transcripts must be from an accredited college or university.  All foreign degrees and transcripts must be evaluated for accreditation by a recognized evaluation service by the closing date of this posting.  Failure to provide documentation may result in ineligibility.

EXPERIENCE: One (1) year of experience performing field inspections, investigations, and surveys, operating control and testing equipment, recording devices and measuring instruments, and/or providing technical support to an Environmental Scientist, Environmental Specialist, or Environmental Engineer.

NOTE: Possession of a current, valid United States Coast Guard Master License may be substituted for the indicated experience (100 - 200 tons).


License
Applicants must possess a current Boat Safety Certificate

Appointees will be required to possess a driver's license valid in New Jersey only if the operation of a vehicle, rather than employee mobility, is necessary to perform the essential duties of the position.

Residency
