Scope of Eligibility
Open to permanent employees in a competitive title who work for State Park Service and meet the requirements below.
Description
Under direction of a Parks Maintenance Supervisor 1 at a Class 1 or 2 park, or other supervisory official at a Class 3 or 4 park in the State Park Service, Department of Environmental Protection, assists in supervising and independently performs the semiskilled work involved in the construction, maintenance, repair, and improvement of structures, equipment, and grounds of State Park Service facilities; does other related duties as required.
Specific to Position
Under direction of a Superintendent or other supervisor, the Parks Maintenance Supervisor 2 will supervise, train, and evaluate staff; plan and assign maintenance projects; perform and oversee work in carpentry, plumbing, masonry, mechanical, painting, and electrical repair; direct construction and repair of dams, bridges, docks, roads, trails, and parking areas; oversee grounds care including mowing, planting, pruning, and pesticide/herbicide application; operate and supervise equipment use; inspect facilities to ensure safety and maintenance standards; manage requisitions and supplies; maintain records and reports; ensure compliance with safety procedures; assist with emergency response including wildfire support; and contribute to upkeep of vehicles, equipment, and uniforms.
*Due to nature of the role, this position is performed exclusively on-site.
Preferred Skill Set
Knowledge of carpentry, plumbing, electrical, masonry, mechanical, and groundskeeping; ability to lead, train, and motivate staff; skills in operating tools, machinery, and equipment; strong organizational skills to manage projects and resources; proficiency with Microsoft Suite for communication, records, and reports; effective communication and interpersonal skills; valid driver’s license (CDL/pesticide certification may be required).
Requirements
EXPERIENCE:
Four (4) years of experience involving the maintenance, renovation, construction, repair, and improvement of structures, equipment, systems, and grounds which shall have included semiskilled carpentry, plumbing, masonry, mechanical, painting, and/or other related work.
License
Appointees will be required to possess a driver's license valid in New Jersey only if the operation of a vehicle, rather than employee mobility, is necessary to perform essential duties of the position.
Appointees may be required to possess a valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) and applicable endorsements for the class and type of vehicle being operated.
Appointee may be required to obtain a NJ Certified Pesticide Applicator's or Operator's Permit in the required categories.
