Scope of Eligibility

Description
Under the close supervision of a Geologist 3 or other supervisory official in a State department or agency, conducts field and office work pertaining to sub-surface investigations, soil compaction, mineral resources, and other related geological work; compiles and analyzes geological data; does other related duties as required.

Specific to the Position
Under federal grants, leads the creation of maps that detail geology of surficial formations, bedrock formations, and aquifers; supports FEMA first responder needs by mapping natural (e.g., karst) and man-made (e.g., historic fill) hazards; and locates and quantifies sand resources under Federal grants for the development of maps. These products are delivered to the US Army Corps of Engineers for the implementation of beach reconstruction projects. Furthermore, these projects are critical for maintaining and enhancing the safety of communities and economic growth of the State.


Preferred Skill Set
Knowledge to perform onsite investigations of geologic hazards.  Software knowledge of Neurolog, ArcGIS, and MemoryMap.water, and other areas to ensure scientific accuracy and compliance with CSRR regulations, policies and procedures for Licensed Site Remediation Professional, Publicly Funded, and Responsible Party cases. Excellent communication skills and experience in ground water flow and contaminant transport are preferred.

Requirements
EDUCATION
Applicants must meet one of the following or a combination of both experience and education. Thirty (30) semester-hour credits are equal to one (1) year of relevant experience.

Five (5) years of professional experience in geology, geophysics, and/or hydrogeology.

OR

Possession of a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in geology, or a bachelor's degree including or supplemented by thirty (30) semester-hour credits in geological subjects; and one (1) year of the above-mentioned professional experience.

OR

Possession of a Master's degree in geology from an accredited college or university.

NOTE: All U.S. degrees and transcripts must be from an accredited college or university. All foreign degrees and transcripts must be evaluated for accreditation by a recognized evaluation service by the closing date of this posting. Failure to provide documentation may result in ineligibility.

License
Appointees will be required to possess a driver's license valid in New Jersey only if the operation of a vehicle, rather than employee mobility, is necessary to perform the essential duties of the position.

Residency
