Scope of Eligibility
Open to permanent employees title that work for the Division of Air Quality and Radiation Protection and meet the requirements below.

Description
Under limited supervision of a Radiation Physicist 3 or other supervisory official in the Department of Environmental Protection, conducts and assigns radiological surveys and inspections; performs standard and special laboratory procedures to evaluate environmental samples for radioactive concentration; conducts and leads environmental sampling and quality assurance associated with radioactively contaminated site decommissioning and environmental sampling associated with radiological assessment of accidents involving radioactive materials and nuclear power electric generating stations; does other related duties as required.

Specific to the Position
Positions 1, 2, & 3: Meet training requirements laid out in Federal NRC Agreement and in individual training journals for various types of radioactive materials licenses, as assigned. Position requires knowledge of NJ's and Nuclear Regulatory Commission regulations, federal guidance on licensing, assessing the safe use of radioactive materials and ensuring occupational and public dose limits are not exceeded by licensees. Responsible for responding to radiation emergencies 24/7 as member of the Radioactive Materials Radiological Assessment Team (RAMRAT).  Ability to utilize specialized equipment to measure alpha, beta, gamma and neutron radiation with the ability to interpret results to determine compliance with state and federal standards. 

Positions 4 & 5: Review initial and renewal radon measurement and mitigation applications from individuals and businesses seeking certification, perform business inspections and investigations independently, maintain the NJ Radon database, inspect installed mitigation systems, present at outreach events, support management of the State Indoor Radon Grant process, monthly reporting review, billing, enforcement, and conduct radon research efforts.

Requirements
EDUCATION:

Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's degree in Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Engineering, Mathematics, Radiologic Technology, Radiation Science or Environmental Sciences, which includes sixteen (16) semester credit hours in any combination of the following lab-based courses: physics, chemistry, biology or medical imaging.

EXPERIENCE:
Three (3) years of experience in the field of radiological health.

NOTE: A Master's degree in one of the above fields may be substituted for one (1) year of the required experience.

NOTE: A Doctorate in one of the above fields may be substituted for two (2) years of the required experience.

NOTE: All U.S. degrees and transcripts must be from an accredited college or university. All foreign degrees and transcripts must be evaluated for accreditation by a recognized evaluation service by the closing date of this posting. Failure to provide documentation may result in ineligibility.

License
Appointees will be required to possess a driver's license valid in New Jersey only if the operation of a vehicle, rather than employee mobility, is necessary to perform the essential duties of the position.
