Description
Under the general supervision of a Supervising Biologist, Fisheries or a supervisory official
in the Department of Environmental Protection, supervises and coordinates on a state-wide
basis surveys of streams and lakes, samplings of fish populations and fish foods, and disease treatment, and generally supervises fish cultural operations and other technical biological work within the fisheries management programs of the state; supervises staff and work activities; prepares and signs official performance evaluations for subordinate staff; does other related duties as required.
Specific to the Position
This new position will develop, implement, and supervise programs intended to engage saltwater recreational anglers through means such as opinion surveys, citizen science, and educational programs. Data and stakeholder input will be incorporated into the management process and used to inform management decisions.
Preferred Skill Set
Knowledgeable about important NJ saltwater recreational fisheries, recreational data collection techniques, survey development, key recreational management issues, and industry concerns. Knowledge of conducting research on resource users. Ability to supervise the design of seminars, programs, and workshops for those interested in fisheries management. Ability to prepare clear and informative reports containing findings, conclusions, and recommendations.
Requirements
EDUCATION:
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's degree in one of the
Biological Sciences, Natural Resource Management, or Environmental Science with a major concentration in Fisheries Science and/or Wildlife Science.
EXPERIENCE:
Three (3) years of experience in fisheries biology, fisheries management, fisheries husbandry,
fisheries research, and/or the development of fisheries management programs.
NOTE: A Master's degree in Fisheries Management or a related field may be substituted for
one (1) year of experience.
NOTE: All U.S. degrees and transcripts must be from an accredited college or university. All foreign degrees and transcripts must be evaluated for accreditation by a recognized evaluation service by the closing date of this posting. Failure to provide documentation may result in ineligibility.
License
Appointees will be required to possess a driver's license valid in New Jersey only if the operation of a vehicle, rather than employee mobility, is necessary to perform the essential duties of the position.
