Scope of Eligibility
Open to permanent employees who work for the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection and meet the requirements below.
Description
Under the direction of a Research Scientist 1 or other supervisory official in a state department, institution, or agency, conducts or participates in research projects or developed programs in a specified professional field; does other related work.
Specific to the Position
The Research Scientist 3, in the working title of Technical Coordinator, conducts general technical evaluations of component reviews from licensed site remediation professionals as well as direct oversight of publicly funded and Superfund cases. Conducts specialized reviews of extractable petroleum hydrocarbon, vapor intrusion and technical impracticability reviews for contaminated sites, and provides comments to licensed site remediation professionals and other groups in the program. Assists in the review of ecological assessments to assist in a large backlog of such reviews in the Bureau. Participates in complex technical consultations with members of the regulated community. Assists in litigation support of high-profile cases. Assists in the review of migration to groundwater and other alternative remediation standard submissions. Maintains a current and thorough knowledge of technical issues related to the investigation and remediation of contaminated sites through training.
Preferred Skill Set
Solid science background and ability to apply knowledge of rules, regulations and guidance to technical document reviews.
Requirements
EDUCATION:
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Master's degree in a discipline appropriate to the position.
EXPERIENCE:
Two (2) years of experience in a field appropriate to the position.
NOTE: A Doctorate in a discipline appropriate to the position may be substituted for two (2) years of experience indicated above.

License
Appointees will be required to possess a driver's license valid in New Jersey only if the operation of a vehicle, rather than employee mobility, is necessary to perform the essential duties of the position.
