Description
Under the direction of a Research Scientist 1 or other supervisory official in a state department, institution, or agency, conducts or participates in research projects or developed programs in a specified professional field; does other related work.

Specific to the Position
The qualified candidate should have an established background in toxicology and human health risk assessment. This position is critical for program and rule development, particularly with the development and updating of the Department’s Remediation Standards [N.J.A.C. 7:26D] for the ingestion-dermal, inhalation, and vapor intrusion exposure pathways and technical guidance. Familiarity with the fundamentals of risk assessment and methodologies is required.  Knowledge of soil and air methods is also preferred. This position requires strong written and verbal skills for interaction with State and Federal agency staff and management, Licensed Site Remediation Professionals (LSRPs), and corporate responsible parties.

Preferred Skill Set
A strong background in human health risk assessment is preferred for this position as responsibilities include the technical review of risk assessments for RCRA and CERCLA sites, as well as the development of remediation standards and screening levels for soil, soil gas, indoor air, and ambient air.  The applicant should have familiarity with USEPA’s Risk Assessment Guidance for Superfund (RAGS) and an adequate understanding of toxicity values and how they are derived. ​​​​​​​

Requirements
EDUCATION: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Master's degree in a discipline appropriate to the position.

EXPERIENCE: Two (2) years of experience in a field appropriate to the position.

NOTE: A Doctorate in a discipline appropriate to the position may be substituted for two (2) years of experience indicated above.

License
Appointees will be required to possess a driver's license valid in New Jersey only if the operation of a vehicle, rather than employee mobility, is necessary to perform the essential duties of the position.
