Program: Watershed & Land Management - Division of Land Resource Protection - Bureau of Coastal Permitting
Program Description: At the DEP's Watershed and Land Management Program (WLM), our mission is to unite land and water stewardship through a collaborative, watershed-focused approach. Since our inception on June 1, 2020, we have been dedicated to preserving and enhancing New Jersey's water quality and natural resources while safeguarding communities from environmental threats.
Project Description: The intern will engage in tasks such as digitizing existing public access locations in coastal municipalities, georeferencing and digitizing dredging projects, and/or mapping permitted nature-based solutions projects. Responsibilities may also include quality assurance and quality control (QAQC) of XY coordinate locations. Additionally, there may be opportunities for fieldwork, allowing interns to conduct site visits.
Specific to the Position: Candidates should have some knowledge of ESRI products such as ArcPro and ArcGIS Online, with completion of GIS courses being a plus. Familiarity with data management software, such as Microsoft Excel, is also preferred. Candidates should be detail oriented and organized.
Preferred Area of Study: Seeking individuals enrolled at an accredited university/college studying one of the Physical Sciences, Environmental Sciences/Studies, Chemical Sciences, Biological Sciences, or in Environmental Planning, Environmental Policy, or Physical Geography; or in Civil Engineering, Sanitary Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Agricultural Engineering, Mining Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or Bio-resource Engineering.
License: Appointee will be required to possess a driver's license valid in New Jersey only if the operation of a vehicle, rather than employee mobility, is necessary to perform the essential duties of the position.
