Scope of Eligibility
Open to permanent employees in a competitive title who works for the Division of Resilience, Engineering & Construction and meet the requirements below.

Description
Under general supervision of the Supervisor, Aids to Navigation, in the Division of Coastal Resources, Department of Environmental Protection, assigns, instructs and supervises a crew engaged in the marking and maintenance of the State's coastal waters and inland waterways and lakes for the safety of the boating public.  Supervises staff and work activities. Prepares and signs official performance evaluations for subordinate staff; does related work as required.

Specific to the Position

Working directly with the ATON Supervisor to schedule all necessary workflows and manpower for the installation, maintenance, and removal of 4,500 state navigation aids across approximately 140 state navigation channels and waterways along with Lake Hopatcong, Greenwood Lake, and Ringwood State Park.  Maintenance of the unit's 6 vessels which include: all electronic equipment, engines, hulls, propellers, hydraulic booms, pumps, and other associated equipment.

Preferred Skill Set
This position requires specific knowledge of the waterways of NJ as well as the vessels and equipment used to mark the channels including the ability to observe, diagnose, and repair said equipment. Strong written and verbal skills required to confer with assigned staff, coordinate with office staff on procurement and installation schedules, and coordinate with outside agencies.

Requirements
Three (3) years of experience in the marking and maintenance of coastal waters, inland waterways and/or lakes.

License 
Appointees will be required to possess a driver's license valid in New Jersey only if the operation of a vehicle, rather than employee mobility, is necessary to perform the essential duties of the position.
