Description Under general supervision of a supervisory official in a state department, institution, agency, or local government agency, takes the lead or may supervise the performance of engineering work including but not limited to water management, air pollution control/management, coastal resource management, hazardous/non-hazardous waste control/management; reviews engineering plans, makes determinations and/or recommendations on plans; field visits, inspections, investigations/surveys; gathers data, researches and analyzes information as it relates to environmental control work; and/or the enforcement of environmental laws and/or regulations; works with Environmental Impact Statements; does related work as required.
Specific to the Position Supervising engineering staff members reviewing engineering materials for all Watershed and Land Management Program applications. Assist in implementing the new Stormwater and Inland Flood Protection rule changes that will influence the Engineering review of permit applications. Assist in conducting engineering review on the influx of WLM Permit applications that are coming in before the new REAL rules are adopted. Perform pre-application meetings to inform the public about the upcoming REAL rules.
Preferred Skill Set Detailed oriented, ability to multitask, strong customer service, and Microsoft Office skills, especially Word and Excel, the ability to work independently and as part of a team. Skill set to include a detailed understanding of hydrologic and hydraulics calculations and ability to make decisions for project compliance with the Flood Hazard Area Control Act and Stormwater Management rules.
Requirements EDUCATION Graduation from an accredited college with a Bachelor's degree in Civil, Chemical, Mechanical, Environmental, Ocean, Coastal, Bio-Resource, Sanitary, Industrial, Agricultural or Mining Engineering, or other field of engineering related to the environment.
NOTE: A valid Professional Engineer's license issued by the New Jersey State Board of Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors may be substituted for the Bachelor's degree in Engineering.
EXPERIENCE: Three (3) years of professional experience in environmental engineering work.
NOTE: A Master's degree in one of the fields specified above may be substituted for one (1) year of the above experience.
