Program Description: At the DEP's Watershed and Land Management Program (WLM), our mission is to unite land and water stewardship through a collaborative, watershed-focused approach. Since our inception on June 1, 2020, we have been dedicated to preserving and enhancing New Jersey's water quality and natural resources while safeguarding communities from environmental threats.
Project Description: This internship supports the Bureau of Freshwater Wetlands and Highlands Permitting in meeting its regulatory responsibilities by providing critical assistance with the review of freshwater wetlands and letter of interpretation applications. This position will aid in application assessments, site inspections, and wetland delineations, directly contributing to the timely and accurate processing of permits. This support helps maintain compliance with environmental regulations and advances the Bureau’s mission to protect New Jersey’s vital freshwater resources.
Specific to the Position: Under close supervision of a supervisory official, the intern will learn and assist in the review of freshwater wetlands permitting applications and letter of interpretation applications, will learn and assist in conducting site inspections and delineate wetlands within the Bureau of Freshwater Wetlands and Highlands Permitting.
Preferred Area of Study: Majors relating to physical sciences, environmental sciences/studies, chemical sciences, biological sciences, environmental planning, or physical geography.
Preferred Skill Set: Detailed oriented, ability to multitask, strong customer service, and Microsoft Office skills, especially Word and Excel, the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
License: Appointee will be required to possess a driver's license valid in New Jersey only if the operation of a vehicle, rather than employee mobility, is necessary to perform the essential duties of the position.
