Program Description
The Human Resources Operations team at the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection plays a key role in supporting the agency’s workforce and organizational goals. As an HR Intern, you will gain hands-on experience by assisting with the Spark (college) and EPIC (high school) internship programs, participating in recruitment and outreach efforts, and contributing to special projects. We are seeking a motivated, detail-oriented student who is eager to learn about human resources, takes initiative, and thrives in a dynamic work environment.
Specific to the Position
• Create reports and summarize findings on intern programs and diversity metrics.
• Collect and analyze intern satisfaction survey results.
• Create Canva graphics for intern events.
• Assist in planning intern events, including the fall and spring Intern Showcases.
• Support onboarding and offboarding of interns at the beginning and end of internship seasons.
• Maintain accurate records in HR systems (NeoGov).
• Help build branding materials for outreach events and career fairs.
• Support outreach efforts by responding to inquiries in the internships email inbox and conducting outreach calls with interested applicants.
Preferred Skillset:
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word (required); Familiarity with Canva (preferred); Strong organizational skills and a willingness to learn new systems; Interest in human resources, labor relations, communications, employee engagement, or public administration; Creativity, problem-solving skills, and takes initiative.
Preferred Area of Study: Seeking individuals (ideally junior, senior, or graduate student) enrolled at an accredited university/college studying human resources management, labor relations, or public administration. Background in communications, event planning, and graphic design preferred.
License
Appointees will be required to possess a driver's license valid in New Jersey only if the operation of a vehicle, rather than employee mobility, is necessary to perform the essential duties of the position.
