Program: Management and Budget Program – Human Resources Operations
Program Description: The Human Resources Operations office at the NJDEP is dedicated to supporting the agency’s mission by ensuring that our workforce is effectively managed, supported, and engaged. HR Operations serves as the foundation for all personnel services across the department, providing consistent and efficient processes that enable employees to thrive in their roles while advancing NJDEP’s environmental initiatives.
Project Description: As a Human Resources Intern, you’ll gain firsthand experience in the administrative and organizational side of human resources, while contributing to projects that help the department streamline its processes. This internship is designed to provide you with exposure to HR functions within a large state agency and give you skills that are transferable to future professional opportunities.

What would a day look like as a Bureau of Program Development Intern?
Preferred Interests:
License: Appointee will be required to possess a driver's license valid in New Jersey only if the operation of a vehicle, rather than employee mobility, is necessary to perform the essential duties of the position.
Residency: All persons newly hired on or after September 1, 2011, have one year from the date of employment to establish, and then maintain principal residence in the State of New Jersey subject to the provisions of N.J.S.A. 52:14-7 (L.2011, Chapter 70), also known as the "New Jersey First Act".
Authorization to Work: Selected candidates must be authorized to work in the United States per the Department of Homeland Security, United States Citizenship and Immigration Services regulations. Note: The State of New Jersey does not provide sponsorship for citizenship to the United States.

- Scan and archive HR paperwork to support NJDEP’s transition toward a digital office.
- Assist with data entry, tracking, and organizing special outreach candidate information.
- Help draft social media posts highlighting career and internship opportunities.
- Support the preparation for information sessions, career fairs, and outreach events.
- Provide support to the HR team for recruitment, onboarding, and employee services.
- Edit and update the Intern Yearbook.
What would a day look like as a Bureau of Program Development Intern?
- Digitize important HR records and keep databases accurate and organized.
- Help the team prepare outreach materials for a career fair or information session.
- Draft content for social media to promote job opportunities and internships.
- Assist with recruitment projects, such as reviewing postings or updating tracking sheets.
- Join team meetings to gain insight into the role HR plays in supporting DEP’s mission.
Preferred Interests:
- Eager to learn how HR supports large organizations and connects talent to opportunity.
- Detail-oriented and organized, with the ability to handle sensitive information.
- Comfortable with technology, including Microsoft Office Suite and Canva.
